Tasting Notes: Milk Chocolate, Orange, Marshmallow

This elegant honey-processed coffee is balanced and bright, with depth from rich cocoa notes and levity from plum and lemon verbena. A persistent throughline of wild honey adds complexity to the aromatics. The body is satiny and viscous, the acidity is sweetly brisk, and the finish is long and lingering, centered around notes of cocoa and honey.  This is just a solid Costa Rica with all the complexity of a honey processed Tarrazu.  We should be able to hold on to this one for a while.

Pura Vida!

I found it presumptuous but not over-bearing.

One of our favorites

This is another good one Tod! We love this for our evening coffee. Not too dark and strong. Just a good smooth, relaxing cup at the end of the day. Will definitely choose this one again.

It's one of the reasons that I order from Tod.

Tod knows what he's doing. He's an artist. This coffee has a very unique, almost orange flavor hiding within its milk chocolate. It's marvelous.

I usually enjoy Costa Rica

And I enjoy Tod’s Red Dirt Blend but this Costa Rica roast misses the mark, and does not bring out the aroma or flavor complexity and note that I have gotten from the Tarrazú from previous years sourced at other roasters. It’s just bland and weak, and after tweaking the grind on my Baratza and using my normal Hario V60, just not getting anything notable.
That said, I have noticed that this year or even some of the coffee I’ve sourced from other roasters have not been as robust as previous years. I have only gotten one coffee (single origin Panama) that lives up to the Central American flavor profile/depth this year. My go-to has been Costa Rica Flecha Roja but it hasn’t been available all year. So, still on the hunt for a really good Central American this year. Maybe Guatemala will come through. It has done that a couple of times these past few years.

Hey Doug! I so appreciate the honesty in your review. It's a wakeup call to me to do better. I actually remember the roast for the CR Tarrazu that I sent you and it went faster than I intended because it was a small batch. I cupped it before I shipped it, but it was early after the roast so hard to tell. This will happen every now and then, and it's up to me to make sure those times are VERY few. I'll email you and we'll get this ironed out. I hate for anyone to spend hard earned money and not get what they pay for. I'll be in touch! Cheers-->Tod

Happiness

Light is right; this coffee is really well balanced with citrus and sweetness. Wonderful aroma and a great complement to the other Central and South American beans Tod delectably roasts. I loved this one!
